Students at DAMMA have a choice of four programs which you can combine to personalize your training regimen to meet your goals and busy lifestyle. THAI KICKBOXINGThai Kickboxing focuses on short and medium range self defense. You will learn effective and practical striking (punching, kicking, etc.) Your self defense capabilities will dramatically improve while achieving your ultimate fitness level. If fitness is your primary goal then the Thai KickBoxing program is for you. The primary focus and benefit of each Thai Kickboxing Class is Physical Conditioning. The classes are designed to help the student lose weight, build muscle and transform their body. Additionally, each class is designed to challenge the student’s cardiovascular fitness and raise their level of conditioning. The next element of Thai Kickboxing is Safety. Mature adults have different needs than teen and children. Each Thai Kickboxing Class is designed to protect the students knees, ankles, back and neck. There is no bouncing, jumping, spinning, flying or contact with other students in the Basic Thai Kickboxing Course. We understand that our students have jobs, families and responsibilities. We protect our students from injury by creating a curriculum that considers the adult student’s needs. “It isn’t so much what we’ve put into Thai Kickboxing that makes it so special... It’s what we took out”. The next element of Thai Kickboxing is Education. Each class is designed to challenge the student intellectually. We realize that most people join our program for fitness and not to become World Champion Fighters. However, by teaching correct technique, the student gets a safer, better workout. Additionally, by teaching the student how to do their punches, kicks, knees and footwork correctly, we keep the program more interesting. Students go on a mental journey each and every class. Thus, taking them away from the normal stress and strain of their busy lives. Martial Arts is in-fact, a “Journey towards Self Perfection”. Adding an educational element to our classes keeps the student focused, happy and challenged. The last and perhaps the most important element of Thai Kickboxing is Fun. There are lots of ways to get into shape. However, the one you will do the longest and benefit from the most is the one you enjoy. We are experts at disguising repetition so that material is familiar and not boring. Plus, we create a “team oriented” classroom. There is no negativity, sarcasm or indifference. The class is focussed and on a quest to not only be their best, but to also help others achieve their goals. “It’s not necessarily what we teach that makes Thai Kickboxing so unique... It’s how we teach it”. We promise a Terrific Workout that’s Safe, Educational and lots of Fun... Every Time! GRACIE JIU-JITSUGracie Jiu-Jitsu focuses on extremely short range self defense. You will learn what to do when you are against a much larger and stronger opponent while clinched or taken to the ground. If self defense is your primary goal then the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program is for you. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is primarily a ground-fighting art. Most techniques involve both fighters on the mat. There is a heavy emphasis on positional strategy, which is about which fighter is on top, and where each person's legs are. Positions are stable situations, from which a large variety of techniques are available to both fighters. The primary positions include: Guard: The person applying the guard is on the bottom with his back on the ground; his legs are wrapped around his opponent's hips (who is said to be "in the guard"). Side control: Chest-on-chest but without the legs being entangled. Mount: On top of his opponent (who "is mounted"), sitting on his chest, with one leg on either side of his torso. Back mount: Behind his opponent, with his feet hooked around his opponent's hips and upper thighs. Specific techniques taught are designed either to improve one's position (for example, to "pass the guard", by going from being "in the guard" to getting around the opponent's legs, resulting in side control); or else as a finishing submissions. Most submissions are either chokes (cutting off the blood supply to the brain) or arm locks (hyperextending the elbow, or twisting the shoulder). Belt ranks start at white belt, and progress through blue, purple, brown, and then black. It generally takes about 2-3 years of training multiple times per week to be promoted to the next belt rank. However, there is no formal rank test. Instead, rank is about the ability to apply jiu-jitsu techniques in a competitive match. A student generally needs to be able to reliably defeat most other students at a given rank in order to be promoted to the next rank. MIXED MARTIAL ARTSOur Mixed Martial Arts is the combination of both Thai KickBoxing and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. If you are a fan of NHB competition such as Pride or UFC you know that these styles are not only the most common but also the most proven and effective.
